Find answers about our in-home lice removal services, appointments, treatment process, pricing, and aftercare guidance for Orange County families.
FAQSWhat are head lice?
Head lice are tiny insects that live close to the scalp. Their eggs, called nits, attach firmly to individual strands of hair near the scalp.
How do children usually get lice?
Head lice spread primarily through direct head-to-head contact. They crawl from one person’s hair to another and do not jump or fly.
Lice can also spread through shared hats, brushes, hair accessories, and other personal items, although this is less common.
How can I tell if my child has lice?
Common signs include itching, scratching, a tickling sensation in the hair, or seeing live lice or nits.
Nits are firmly attached to individual strands of hair and do not brush away easily like dandruff or product buildup. Because not everyone experiences itching, a professional head check can help confirm what is present.
Are head lice caused by poor hygiene?
No. Head lice are not related to personal hygiene or the cleanliness of your home. They can happen to any family and are especially common among children.
Do head lice spread disease?
No. Head lice do not spread disease, although they can cause itching, discomfort, and stress for families.
Can pets carry or spread head lice?
No. Head lice live on humans. Dogs, cats, and other household pets do not carry or spread them.
What happens during an in-home lice treatment appointment?
Your technician comes to your home with the professional tools, treatment products, and supplies needed for the appointment.
Hair is carefully checked for lice and nits and, when treatment is needed, worked through one section at a time using meticulous combing and manual removal. Your technician will explain what is being done throughout the appointment and provide clear aftercare and follow-up guidance before leaving.
What products do you use during lice treatment?
We use a pesticide-free process with olive oil, sulfate-free conditioner, and meticulous combing. The olive oil and conditioner provide the slip needed to work carefully through the hair, one section at a time.
At the end of treatment, household-type dish soap is used to help wash the oil from the hair and scalp. We do not use permethrin or pyrethrin-based lice treatments or harsh medicated lice shampoos.
Please let us know about any known allergies, sensitivities, or scalp conditions before your appointment.
Do you treat children and adults?
Yes. We provide head checks and lice treatment for both children and adults.
Can you check or treat the whole family?
Yes. We can check all household members during the same appointment and provide treatment to anyone who needs it.
To reduce the risk of lice being reintroduced, all household members must be checked at the initial appointment and treated if needed for the 30-Day Lice-Free Guarantee* to apply.
How long does lice treatment take?
Appointment length varies based on hair type and length, the level of infestation, the amount of combing needed, and the number of people being checked or treated.
Because every household is different, we do not provide a standard treatment time in advance.
Will one lice treatment get rid of it?
Not on its own. Because of the lice life cycle, nits may hatch after the initial treatment appointment.
The complete process includes the initial treatment, following the 9-day post-treatment plan, and completing the required technician follow-up visit. Skipping the plan or follow-up visit increases the chance that live lice will be found again.
What makes professional lice removal different from trying to handle it at home?
Professional lice removal takes the guesswork out of a process that can be difficult to manage alone. Your technician carefully checks the hair, completes section-by-section combing and manual removal, and brings the treatment products, tools, and supplies needed for the appointment.
You will also receive a clear 9-day post-treatment plan with step-by-step treatment instructions, a home care checklist, and guidance for your follow-up visit, so you know exactly what to do next.
Do I need to visit a lice treatment clinic?
No. Clear Head Concierge comes directly to your home, so your family does not need to travel to a clinic.
We provide in-home lice removal in houses, apartments, condos, and rental properties throughout our Orange County service area.
Is your in-home lice removal service discreet?
Yes. Your technician arrives in an unmarked vehicle, and the appointment is handled respectfully in the comfort of your home.
Do I need to provide towels, brushes, or treatment supplies?
No. Your technician brings the professional tools, pesticide-free treatment products, towels, and supplies used during the appointment.
We do not use your household towels, brushes, hair products, or personal items during service.
Do I need to deep clean my entire house?
No. You do not need to deep clean, fumigate, or spray your entire home.
Focus on recently used items that had direct contact with the affected person’s head. Your technician will explain what needs attention and provide a home care checklist so you know what to clean and what you can skip.
What should I wash after lice treatment?
Focus on pillowcases, bedding, towels, hats, clothing, and other washable items used by the affected person during the two days before treatment.
Wash and dry these items using the hottest settings that are safe for the material. Combs, brushes, hair ties, and clips can be placed in hot water for 5 to 10 minutes.
Do I need to clean couches, mattresses, rugs, or my car?
You do not need to spray furniture, mattresses, rugs, or vehicles with pesticides.
Vacuuming areas where the affected person recently sat, slept, or rested their head is generally sufficient. Your technician can help identify which areas need attention.
Do you offer same-day lice treatment?
Same-day and next-day appointments may be available depending on scheduling.
Call, text, or submit the Book Now form, and we will let you know the earliest available appointment.
What areas of Orange County do you serve?

Visit our Areas We Service page for the complete list of cites and communities we serve.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Call, text, or submit the Book Now form.
We will ask a few questions about your location, household, and who may need to be checked or treated. Your appointment details and next steps will then be confirmed by text.
How much does in-home lice removal cost?
The first hour and travel are $249. Each additional hour is $199, with additional treatment time charged in 15-minute increments. There are no hidden fees or surprise add-ons.
Is pricing based on head count or the level of infestation?
No. We do not charge a per-person rate or set pricing based on a technician’s assessment of severity. Pricing is based on the amount of appointment time used.
The number of people being checked or treated, hair length, and treatment needs may affect how long the appointment takes. Our rates are published in advance and applied consistently, so families understand how pricing works before the appointment begins.
How do I pay?
We accept major credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay through a secure payment link.
The first hour and travel fee are paid when your appointment is confirmed. Any remaining balance is paid after the appointment, and a receipt is provided.
Clear Head Concierge is a cashless business. Cash gratuities are welcome.
What should I do before my appointment?
Hair should be free of braids, ponytails, clips, hats, and heavy styling products. Brushing or gently detangling beforehand is helpful, but hair does not need to be freshly washed or dry.
A protective cape is used during treatment, though comfortable clothing that can handle a small amount of product is recommended just in case. For children, having a book, tablet, favorite toy, or another quiet activity available can help them stay comfortable and occupied.
Our technicians arrive with everything needed for the appointment, including treatment products, professional tools, towels, and brushes, so you do not need to gather supplies beforehand.
What area should I prepare for the appointment?
A comfortable area with good lighting, ventilation, and enough space for the technician to work is best. A location near a sink is preferred when possible.
Pets may remain in the home but should be kept away from the immediate treatment area during the appointment.
Does a parent or guardian need to be present?
Yes. A parent or legal guardian must remain present throughout the appointment when a minor is being checked or treated.
What should I do after lice treatment?
Follow the 9-day post-treatment plan provided by your technician. It will explain when to check and comb the hair, which household items need attention, what to avoid, and how to prepare for a follow-up visit.
Please contact Clear Head Concierge with any questions before using another lice product or changing the recommended plan.
Is a follow-up appointment necessary?
A follow-up visit is optional, but it is required to qualify for the 30-Day Lice-Free Guarantee. Follow-up visits are billed at the standard service rate.
Can lice come back after treatment?
Yes. Live lice may be found again if nits hatch after the initial appointment, the post-treatment plan is not completed, someone else in the household has lice, or there is a new exposure.
Checking everyone in the household, treating anyone with lice, following the full 9-day plan, and completing a follow-up visit can help reduce the chance of lice returning.
Do you offer a guarantee?
Yes. Our 30-Day Lice-Free Guarantee applies when all household members are checked and treated as needed at the initial appointment, the 9-day post-treatment plan is followed, and the required follow-up visit is completed.
The 30-day guarantee period begins on the date of the follow-up visit. If live lice are confirmed during that period and all guarantee requirements have been met, Clear Head Concierge will provide one additional treatment visit, including travel, at no charge.*
*Additional terms apply. See our Terms & Conditions for full details.
Can my child return to school or daycare after lice treatment?
In most cases, children can return to school or daycare after treatment has begun. However, individual schools and daycare facilities may have their own return policies.
Check directly with your child’s school or daycare to confirm its requirements.
Can you provide documentation for my child’s school or daycare?
Yes. A clearance note for returning to school or daycare is available upon request at the end of the treatment appointment.
The note confirms that a full head lice treatment was completed and provides a return date for school or daycare. Because requirements vary, parents should confirm their facility’s specific return policy.
